Casino di Venezia – The first edition of the Malta Poker Showdown gathered 20 players from international regions who faced off on Sunday the 28th March 2009.
The event, which featured a buy-in of €150+15 started at 16:45pm and reached a prize pool of €2850. The event was hosted in the beautiful main poker hall of the Casino Di Venezia, the same hall which was utilised for the final table action during the EMOP and EC Poker Tour poker tournaments held in 2009.
Players were treated to a dinner break at 20:00Hrs, when they all gathered in the Casino’s restaurant terrace and enjoyed a full buffet meal before heading back to the tournament for the final table action.
Amongst the 8 players who reached the final table, Marco Curmi and Raymond Borg emerged as the chip leaders. The casino also set-up a large projector covering the felt which gave spectators a better view of the action at the table.
By 23:00Hrs, the three remaining players in the tournament agreed to split the pot and were listed in the following order:
1st Place – Marco Curmi
€950 + €33 non-negotiable chips
750 points for the VPL Ranking
2nd Place – Raymond Borg
€950 + €33 non-negotiable chips
300 points for the VPL Ranking
3rd Place – Thomas Harvey
€950 + 33 non-negotiable chips
100 points for the VPL Ranking
Non cash prizes were also awarded to all the final table players and included Wine, Casino di Venezia Promotional items as well as 100 points for the VPL Ranking
The Casino di Venezia are hosting the next edition of the Malta Poker showdown on the 25th April 2010. Satellites will be held for this event on a weekly basis on Friday’s and Saturdays.
